Diana Juchter Berry, daughter of Pieter Juchter Jr and Luzia Anna Johanna Pollag Juchter, was born Sunday April 14, 1957, in Odenheim, Germany. She attended high school in Waynesboro; VA. Diana attended the University of Virginia and graduated in 1979. In 1988 she married David Michael Berry. Their union was blessed with three wonderful, caring children.
Diana spent most of her career working as a research scientist at biomedical research labs Upstate, the University of Virginia (over 20 years), and then Hemoshear (over 13 years) in Charlottesville, VA until her retirement. Her work focused on gout and rare liver and metabolic diseases; she was passionate in the pursuit of creating treatments to help patients.
Diana had a very altruistic drive beyond her work as well. She served in numerous volunteer roles for the Virginia Skyline Council and as a troop leader with the Girl Scouts of America for her two daughters. Diana volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and All Blessings Flow in Charlottesville. After moving to Collinsville, she and Dave volunteered with the Henry County Food Pantry in Bassett. Even after retiring, Diana found purposeful ways to contribute to her community.
Diana was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013 and was in remission until 2020. Diana continued cancer treatments until August 2025, outliving multiple doctor's estimated timelines. She departed this life Friday September 19th, 2025, at her home in Collinsville, VA. She had been at peace with her diagnosis and was “ready for the next chapter of her adventure” for some time. She was preceded in death by her brother, Raymond; father, Pieter Jr; mother, Luzia; and nephew, Matthias Juchter.
She is survived by her husband of 37 years, David; three children: Peter (Katie) Berry of Winston-Salem, NC, Margaret Berry of Fredericksburg, VA, and Joanna Berry of Beckley, WV; two grandchildren, Henry and Thomas Berry of Winston-Salem, NC; brothers, Pieter (Vonita) Juchter, III of Asheboro, NC, and Bryan (Cassie) Juchter of Cornelius, NC; nephews, Nathan (Justine) Juchter, Andrew Juchter, Kevin Berry; nieces, Erica (David) Balfour, Gina (David) Tighe, Lauren (Kaleb Keyserling) Metzger; brother-in law, John (Elaine) Berry; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Metzger; ten great nieces and nephews; and six furry friends.
